Uh oh, winter is here and the kids are cooped up inside. Without being able to go outside and run around, how will they burn off all that energy?
Never fear, there are actually a lot of activitiesboth indoor and outdoorto keep kids physically active in the winter. Here’s a list of some great ways to get your kids moving:
1. Obviously, playing in the snow (if you have it). This one might be a given, but it’s a great way to get them to expend a lot of energy. After building a snowman and sledding, make sure you get in a snowball fight! Don’t have snow? Have an indoor snowball fight with paper. (Just try not to break anything).
2. Sports! There are plenty of winter sports you kids can do both indoors and outdoors. You’ve got basketball, wrestling, hockey, martial arts, indoor swimming, gymnastics, skiing, bowling, crossfit, indoor rock climbing, and ice skating. You may be able to find some of these activities at your local Y.
3. Bring in outside toys like hula hoops, jump rope, and balls. Again, watch out for breaking lamps!
4. Play games like charades and Simon Says. Or make up new rules to gameslike having to run around the living room if you have to go fish.
5. Exercise together. Create your own little workout routinejumping jacks, pushups, running in place, etc. Hey, you can even find fun exercise videos on YouTube. A little zumba never hurt anyone.
6. Have some fun with interactive games. You’ve got Wii Fit, which has activities like juggling, skateboarding, snowball fights, obstacle courses, log-leaping, and more.
7. Go on a hike. Of course, you might want to wait until it’s not super freezing out, but there’s something great about taking a walk in the snow.
